Jequette Edmonson promoted to Executive Director Edmonson Staff attorney Jequette Edmonson has been selected by the Board of Trustees of the Legal Aid Society of Birmingham to lead its 25-member staff as Executive Director, as announced by Board President Nick Gaede. “The Search Committee and the Board believe Jequette is the right person to lead Legal Aid,” stated Gaede. “She has extensive experience in the courts Legal Aid serves and is a proven leader among her peers. More important, she is a committed advocate for those most in need of quality legal services.” Edmonson, a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Birmingham School of Law, had a prior career in journalism and public relations. She will become the sixth Executive Director of the organization, following the 18-year tenure of Martha Jane Patton, who is retiring in April 2016. Edmonson joined the organization in 2000 as a Staff Attorney in the Municipal Court Division and rose to become Managing Attorney in that Division. She subsequently transferred to the Family Court Division, where she has represented children as a Guardian ad Litem in abuse and neglect cases for the past three years. She is a graduate of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum Class of 2005 and currently serves as the Chair of the Public Service Committee of the Birmingham Bar Association.
